Founded by Fred Drake, a SCUBA Diving Leadership specialist, we introduced the first-ever snorkeling tour to the state.
Our Mountain Point Snorkeling Adventure was a renowned Shore Excursion with major cruise lines. However, post-pandemic, we strategically adopted a more intimate, personalized approach, sidelining cruise line commissions while upholding top-notch safety standards.
Fred’s team, a skilled ensemble of Professional Association of Diving Instructors Rescue Divers, Divemasters, and Instructors, has welcomed over 50,000 guests to the Alaskan depths. Our accolades, including the ‘Shore Excursion of the Season’ from Princess Cruises seven times in ten seasons, the ‘Tour Guide of the Season’ eight times, and the 2009 Excellence in Tourism Award, underline our above and beyond service.

The Marketing Challenge
Snorkel Alaska came to Beacon Media + Marketing with a desire to move to direct sales, breaking away from the dependency of booking excursions through the cruise ship industry and knew that the successful marketing of their business would mean that they needed to upgrade their user experience and increase the online visibility.
The crew at Snorkel also understood that in order to increase sales from online bookings, the site needed to be navigated easily, provide exciting and intriguing imagery that would show the truly unique and adventurous nature of their business.

The first goal for both Snorkel Alaska and Beacon was to create a beautiful and exceptional user experience for the tourists who want to book this amazing adventure. Our team of Website and UX designers worked with the client to investigate the look and feel of the current website, offering suggestions based on functionality, color accessibility, and over all design.
Once that conversation was complete, our seasoned team at Beacon had a clear idea of which direction to lean into and set out to redesign a beautifully functional website that would catch the eye and ease the fears of potential clients for the snorkeling tours.
It was of utmost importance to highlight not only the amazing adventure that awaits the visitor, but also communicate the expertise of Snorkel Alaska in the industry of “off-ship” tourism. Ketchikan is in a remote part of Southeast Alaska, and reliability to not miss the boat is in the forefront of the visitor’s mind when booking an excursion.
An attractive and engaging website is important for any business. Using the landscape of the client’s backyard, it was simple to pick imagery that communicated the exciting and unique nature of what lay ahead when the tour was booked.
Website engagement is not just function and form, but also informational. To engage the audience, Beacon used our expertise in messaging to create an experience that invites and draws in the the site visitor to continue to explore Snorkel’s website. When the new site was launched, the time visitors spent on the site soared 112% to an average session of over 13 minutes. This is a staggering result and is a direct response to the UX design and content of this website.
The beauty and functionality of the website set the stage for a dynamic and enticing paid ads strategy which targeted Alaskan visitors through a compelling visual story and to the website, which offered a seamless and barrier-free booking experience.
